About the Webinar: While it is common within the hearing conservation community to utilize noise exposure data as well as hearing protector attenuation data to select hearing protection devices for noise exposed personnel, the worker’s audibility needs are not as widely considered. Recent research has demonstrated what hearing conservation professionals has known intuitively: workers sometimes forgo hearing protection device use, or purposefully do maximize hearing protector attenuation to restore a needed degree of audibility. An audibility assessment will be presented to help hearing conservation professionals to better meet their worker’s needs.

Presenter: Eric Fallon, LTC (Ret), Au.D.

Dr. Fallon currently works for 3M Corporation as an Application Engineer in Technical Service supporting the global Military and Law Enforcement Segment. Having spent 25 years in the military as an infantryman, artilleryman and audiologist, Eric has managed hearing conservation programs as large as 48,000 personnel. He has multiple deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan and has seen firsthand the challenges of communicating in noisy environments and maintaining audibility while protecting one’s hearing from hazardous noise. He routinely works with the military community in solving tactical communication and hearing protection issues and is working to broaden that interest to the industrial workplace. Eric holds a Doctorate degree in Audiology, and a Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology with the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA).

Learning Outcomes - By the end of this presentation, attendees will be able to:

1. As a result of this activity, the participant will be able to describe additional hearing protection selection criteria that may benefit the noise exposed worker.
