NEW Workshop Format for 2026 Conference!

We're excited to announce an enhanced Hybrid Workshop Format for the NHCA 50th Annual Conference, designed to give you more flexibility, deeper learning, and hands-on skill development.

For 2026, several workshops now include a virtual pre-conference session—held approximately two weeks before the conference—to cover foundational material. This allows the in-person portion of the workshop to focus fully on applied, practical, and hands-on components. Other workshops will be offered fully virtual or entirely on-site, giving you the freedom to choose the learning style that fits you best.

All pre-conference virtual dates are listed below. Selected sessions will also be recorded and made available in the NHCA Learning Management System (LMS). Preconference materials must be completed before arriving on-site.

    Sound Postcard
I’m betting that the vast majority of us haven’t thought about this way to fight a fire – with sound! Remington Bixby Hotchkis is leading an innovative effort in California to commercialize a new technology that can put out fire with sound-wave energy instead of water and chemicals. Currently he is leading commercialization efforts for an infrasound fire suppression technology in California for Ohio-based Sonic Fire Tech.
The technology behind Sonic Fire is simple. To protect a house, it routes infrasound waves from a generator through ductworks that sit on the roof’s ridge and under eaves. On the ridge, the sound waves fire down the pitch to catch any fire that might start in debris in the gutters. Under the eaves, they are aimed toward the ground to suppress flames that pop up near the walls, catching bushes or branches on fire.

The system turns on when sensors detect flames — even from a cigarette — producing a thumping sound that breaks down the oxygen that feeds a flame. No earplugs are needed.

In October, the startup raised $3.5 million in funding from a group of investors.

Read more about this innovative idea here.
